Insel Ruden

English oder Deutsch

The island of Ruden lies at the mouth of the Peenestrom estuary off the Baltic Sea coast, located at the southern end of the Greifswald lagoon.
The island, nothing more than a sandback in truth, has a long and interesting history. For centuries it was a vital part of the navigational infrastructure of both the Oder and the Peene rivers. During WWII it played a vital role during the development of the V2 rockets before becoming a border station. Now, after years of negelect it has been designated as a bird sanctuary and nature reserve and the harbour is closed to sailing and motor boats.

We have lived here on and off, since 2020, working together with www.naturschutz-vorpommern.de as the guardians of the island and its wildlife.

In the late spring, summer and early autumn months we give guided tours to visitors who arrive here with the only ship allowed into the harbour. To book a tour follow this link … www.schifffahrt-apollo.de
